Neuroimmune crosstalk through brain-derived neurotrophic factor and its precursor pro-BDNF: New insights into mood disorders

Xiao-Pei Zhao et al.

Summary: Depressive disorders, the most common mental disorders, affect approximately 350 million people worldwide. Recent studies have revealed the role of neuroimmune interactions in regulating mood disorders, particularly involving brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and its precursor pro-BDNF. This review aims to provide insights into the functions of BDNF/pro-BDNF signaling in the central nervous system and the development of mood disorders, as well as summarize the advancements in understanding BDNF/pro-BDNF in mood disorders.

ERRγ ligand HPB2 upregulates BDNF-TrkB and enhances dopaminergic neuronal phenotype

Hyo In Kim et al.

Summary: This study investigates the role of ERRγ in regulating the BDNF signaling pathway and DAergic neuronal phenotype. The ERRγ agonist HPB2 was designed and synthesized, and its effects on BDNF expression and DAergic neuronal phenotype were confirmed in cellular experiments and a mouse model.

proBDNF expression induces apoptosis and inhibits synaptic regeneration by regulating the RhoA-JNK pathway in an in vitro post-stroke depression model

Bangkun Yang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that proBDNF plays a significant role in the pathophysiology of PSD, affecting cellular apoptosis and depression-related proteins. The mechanism may involve the promotion of cellular apoptosis and the inhibition of nerve synapse regeneration by proBDNF, contributing to the progression of PSD.
