Clinical applications of microperimetry in RPGR-related retinitis pigmentosa: a review

Thomas M. W. Buckley et al.

Summary: Microperimetry is a precise technique used to assess central retinal function, and has played a critical role in RPGR-related RP gene therapy trials. This review summarizes the principles of microperimetry, specific parameters for outcome measures in clinical trials, and the current state of structure-function correlations in RPGR-related retinitis pigmentosa.

The impact of different thresholds on optical coherence tomography angiography images binarization and quantitative metrics

Alessandro Arrigo et al.

Summary: This study tested thirteen binarization thresholds on a dataset of thirty volunteers to evaluate their impact on the detection of retinal capillaries, quantitative OCTA metrics, and foveal avascular zone (FAZ) detection. The findings identified Huang, Li, Mean, and Percentile thresholds as highly reliable, while Intermodes, MaxEntropy, RenylEntropy, and Yen thresholds were considered the worst. The study also found that all thresholds consistently underestimated vessel density (VD) metric and FAZ detection with varying degrees of stability for vessel tortuosity (VT) and vessel dispersion (Vdisp). The usage of a Fixed threshold showed promise in reducing VD and FAZ underestimations, highlighting the importance of operator experience.
