Sedentary Time and Metabolic Risk in Extremely Active Older Adults

Summary: The study found a significant association between sedentary behavior and increasing cardiometabolic risk even in active older adults. Therefore, reducing sedentary time in daily life may help lower cardiometabolic risk in the elderly population.

Targeting body composition in an older population: do changes in movement behaviours matter? Longitudinal analyses in the PREDIMED-Plus trial

Aina M. Galmes-Panades et al.

Summary: Increasing total physical activity and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity, as well as reducing sedentary behavior and TV-viewing time, were associated with improved body composition in older adults with overweight or obesity and metabolic syndrome. Reallocating inactive time to total physical activity, light-intensity physical activity, and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity resulted in beneficial changes in body composition, with the greatest benefits observed with moderate-to-vigorous physical activity.
