Quantifying the Employer Burden of Persistent Musculoskeletal Pain at a Large Employer in the United Kingdom A Non-interventional, Retrospective Study of Rolls-Royce Employee Data

Summary: This study aimed to quantify the burden of work-relevant musculoskeletal pain on a large UK employer and found significant differences in sickness absence between cases and controls. Despite the availability of extensive occupational health services, there is a clear need to better understand how to effectively reduce this burden.

With strong support from multisectoral stakeholders, this framework can guide initiatives to improve musculoskeletal health and prioritize health system strengthening efforts.

Prevalence, Deaths, and Disability-Adjusted Life Years Due to Musculoskeletal Disorders for 195 Countries and Territories 1990-2017

Summary: There is a global burden of musculoskeletal disorders with increasing prevalence, deaths, and DALYs. In 2017, the global prevalence of cases approached 1.3 billion, with death and DALY rates of 121.3 thousand and 138.7 million, respectively. The prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders is higher in women and increases with age.
