Adding salt to foods and hazard of premature mortality

Hao Ma et al.

Summary: The study found that frequent addition of salt to foods is associated with an increased risk of premature mortality and decreased life expectancy. Consuming a diet rich in fruits and vegetables may potentially mitigate this association.

Sodiumintake, life expectancy, and all-cause mortality

Franz H. Messerli et al.

Summary: The study shows a positive correlation between sodium intake and healthy life expectancy at birth and age 60, but not with death due to non-communicable diseases. Conversely, all-cause mortality is inversely correlated with sodium intake worldwide and in high-income countries, suggesting that sodium intake may not be a risk factor for premature death.

Effect of Salt Substitution on Cardiovascular Events and Death

B. Neal et al.

Summary: The study found that among individuals with a history of stroke or aged 60 or older with high blood pressure, using a salt substitute can reduce the rates of stroke, major cardiovascular events, and death.

Sodium intake, life expectancy, and all-cause mortality

Franz H. Messerli et al.

Summary: Our study found a positive correlation between sodium intake and life expectancy worldwide and in high-income countries, but no correlation with death due to non-communicable diseases, and an inverse correlation with all-cause mortality. This suggests that dietary sodium intake may not be a culprit in shortening lifespan or a risk factor for premature death.
