Genotoxic and cytotoxic effects of pethoxamid herbicide on Allium cepa cells and its molecular docking studies to unravel genotoxicity mechanism

Recep Liman et al.

Summary: Pethoxamid is a chloroacetamide herbicide commonly used to kill weeds in crops. This study investigated the cytotoxic and genotoxic effects of pethoxamid on Allium cepa cells. The results showed that pethoxamid inhibited the root growth of onion and caused chromosomal aberrations and DNA damage. Molecular docking analysis revealed that pethoxamid binds selectively to GC-rich regions in DNA and has a high affinity for VLCFA synthases. Therefore, the genotoxicity and cytotoxicity of pethoxamid may be attributed to its multiple binding ability with DNA and VLCFA synthases.

Bisphenol A and Bisphenol S Induce Endocrine and Chromosomal Alterations in Brown Trout

Giada Frenzilli et al.

Summary: The study shows that both bisphenol A and its alternative bisphenol S can cause endocrine disrupting and genotoxic effects in brown trout, indicating two different mechanisms of damage underlying the activities of bisphenol A and bisphenol S. Bisphenol A primarily increases micronuclei frequency in fish erythrocytes, while bisphenol S may cause damage through other mechanisms.

Cytotoxic and genotoxic evaluation of copper oxychloride through Allium test and molecular docking studies

Recep Liman et al.

Summary: This study investigated the cytotoxic and genotoxic effects of copper oxychloride on Allium cepa root cells, showing root growth inhibition, decreased mitotic index, increased chromosomal aberrations, and DNA damage. The two main polymorphs of copper oxychloride selectively bind to G and C nucleotides on DNA, potentially causing DNA damage through minor groove recognition and intercalation. Further molecular studies are needed to fully understand the cyto-genotoxic mechanism of action of copper oxychloride.
