Climate effects on fish diversity in the subtropical bays of Texas

Michaela Pawluk et al.

Summary: The study models the response of fish diversity to climate variables and finds significant increasing trends in fish diversity in eight major bays along the coast of Texas in fall and spring. Temperature, salinity, and sea level are identified as the most important factors driving the increase in fish diversity. Observed increases are likely attributed to changing habitat availability resulting from sea-level rise and increasing winter temperatures.

In a network of lines that intersect: The socio-economic development impact of marine resource management and conservation in Southeast Asia

Marco J. Haenssgen et al.

Summary: Research on marine protected areas implementation impact on socio-economic development reveals unintended negative consequences, such as social division, livelihood anxiety, and false sense of economic security. Additionally, MPAs are associated with slower or even regressive socio-economic development, characterized by decreasing wealth and increasing child mortality.

Adaptive coping strategies towards seasonal change impacts: Indonesian small-scale fisherman household

Edi Susilo et al.

Summary: Small-scale fishers need to adapt to fishing activities based on weather and fishing season, with strategies including diversifying household income sources, internal family coping strategies (with humor being a common indicator), and external family coping strategies based on local community characteristics and culture. The model for strengthening household coping strategies involves collaboration between formal institutional roles and government institutions.
