Industrial output, services and carbon emissions: the role of information and communication technologies and economic freedom in Africa

Chinazaekpere Nwani et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of industrial structure, information and communication technologies, and economic freedom on carbon dioxide emissions in African economies. The findings suggest that industrial output increases territorial-based CO2 emissions, while services reduce consumption-based CO2 emissions. The use of fixed and analogue telephone technologies increases CO2 emissions, while mobile and internet technologies decrease CO2 emissions. Additionally, increased economic freedom decreases territorial-based CO2 emissions.

Accounting for the combined impacts of natural resources rent, income level, and energy consumption on environmental quality of G7 economies: a panel quantile regression approach

Bright Akwasi Gyamfi et al.

Summary: This study utilizes multiple empirical methods to investigate the impact of natural resource rents and energy consumption on the environmental quality of G7 economies, revealing a significant positive relationship between natural resource rents and pollution, as well as adverse and significant effects of renewable energy consumption and positive effects of fossil fuel energy consumption on carbon dioxide emissions. Additionally, income levels combined with fossil fuel use strongly affect environmental degradation, while natural resource rents Granger cause clean energy consumption within the G7 countries.

Assessing the distributional effects of financial development on consumption-based carbon emissions in Sub-Saharan Africa: a quantile-based analysis

Lasbrey Anochiwa et al.

Summary: This study assesses the role of financial development in consumption-based carbon emissions, taking into account the environmental Kuznets curve hypothesis. The results indicate that financial development, population size, and energy intensity are drivers of carbon emissions, with financial development exhibiting a significant positive effect on countries in the higher quantiles but not in the lower quantiles. The model does not support the environmental Kuznets curve hypothesis for Sub-Saharan African countries.

Natural resource, globalization, urbanization, human capital, and environmental degradation in Latin American and Caribbean countries

Solomon P. Nathaniel et al.

Summary: The study examines the relationship between natural resource exploration, globalization, urbanization, and environmental degradation in Latin American and Caribbean countries. It finds that human capital plays a moderating role in reducing carbon dioxide emissions, and there is a causal link between economic growth and emissions. The study suggests promoting sustainable growth-driven industries and enhancing human capital to mitigate CO(2) emissions in the region.

How energy service companies moderate the impact of industrialization and urbanization on carbon emissions in China?

Saina Zheng et al.

Summary: Energy service companies (ESCOs) play an important role in mitigating carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions during urbanization and industrialization in China. Regression analysis conducted on data from 29 provinces in China reveals that ESCOs have a significant moderating effect on the relationship between urbanization, industrialization, and CO2 emissions, especially in areas with lower industrialization levels.
