A robust biocatalyst based on laccase immobilized superparamagnetic Fe3O4@SiO2-NH2 nanoparticles and its application for degradation of chlorophenols

Zhihui Chen et al.

Summary: This study proposes a biocatalytic method for the degradation of chlorophenols using enzyme-nanoparticle conjugated biocatalyst. The laccase from Trametes versicolor was immobilized on amino-functionalized superparamagnetic Fe3O4@SiO2-NH2 nanoparticles, which demonstrated improved stability and reusability compared to free laccase. The degradation efficiency of 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) and 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (2,4,6-TCP) remained high even after multiple cycles. The study also identified the intermediate products and degradation pathway of chlorophenols. These findings suggest that this clean biotechnology could be an alternative method for the remediation of chlorophenol-contaminated water matrices.

A pilot study for enhanced transformation of a metabolite 3,5-dichloroaniline derived from dicarboximide fungicides through immobilized laccase mediator system

Aniruddha Sarker et al.

Summary: This pilot investigation evaluated the removal efficiency and pathways of immobilized fungal laccase during the oxidative biotransformation of 3,5-dichloroaniline (3,5-DCA). The immobilized laccase showed high removal efficiency and excellent stability compared to free laccase. The study proposed a potential reaction pathway for the biotransformation of 3,5-DCA, which could be useful in sustainable environmental remediation.

Co-immobilized spore laccase/TiO2nanoparticles in the alginate beads enhance dye removal by two-step decolorization

Mojtaba Khakshoor et al.

Summary: The combination of co-entrapped spore laccase and TiO(2) nanoparticles led to efficient degradation of dye with good stability and high decolorization efficiency. Analysis of the half-life of indigo carmine in different remediation systems showed that the laccase/TiO2 combination exhibited the best degradation effect in this study.

Efficient phenol degradation by laccase immobilized on functional magnetic nanoparticles in fixed bed reactor under high-gradient magnetic field

Ting-Ting Xia et al.

Summary: The immobilized laccase on the polyethylenimine (PEI)-functionalized magnetic nanoparticles has shown promising results in continuously degrading phenolic compounds in a fixed bed reactor under a high-gradient magnetic field. With optimized conditions, the degradation rate of phenol remained above 70.30% in 48 hours of continuous treatment, indicating its potential for industrial wastewater treatment.

Enhanced diclofenac elimination in Fe(II)/peracetic acid process by promoting Fe(III)/Fe(II) cycle with ABTS as electron shuttle

Jinbin Lin et al.

Summary: Introduced ABTS as an electron shuttle in Fe(II)/PAA process significantly enhanced the oxidation capacity and efficiency for diclofenac elimination. ABTS(.+) was identified as the primary reactive species responsible for diclofenac degradation in the presence of Fe(II) and PAA, although other reactive species like (FeO2+)-O-IV and R-O-. also existed. The study proposed two possible degradation pathways of diclofenac and demonstrated the potential application of ABTS/Fe(II)/PAA process in water treatment for micropollutant removal.
