Long-term biochar application promotes rice productivity by regulating root dynamic development and reducing nitrogen leaching

Bitao Liu et al.

Summary: Biochar and nitrogen fertilizer can significantly promote rice growth, improve soil quality, enhance root growth, and increase grain yield. Their long-term application together can reduce bulk density, increase soil organic carbon content, and reduce nitrate and ammonium concentration in leachate, ultimately increasing rice N fertilizer-use efficiency.

Enhanced photocatalytic performance for phenol degradation using ZnO modified with nano-biochar derived from cellulose nanocrystals

Yin Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, phenol degradation was effectively achieved using CCNC/ZnO photocatalysts, prepared by regulating ZnO with nano-biochar derived from CNCs. The conjugated graphitic structures of CCNC reduced the band gap of ZnO, promoting the separation and transfer of photogenerated electron-hole pairs, leading to improved photodegradation efficiency for phenol. The efficiency for phenol photodegradation was comprehensively influenced by a combination of factors such as the ratio of photocatalyst, initial phenol concentration, catalyst dose, and pH value.
