Mechanisms and adsorption capacities of biochar for the removal of organic and inorganic pollutants from industrial wastewater

T. G. Ambaye et al.

Summary: The rapid growth of urbanization and industrialization in developing countries has led to a significant increase in industrial wastewater production, posing high environmental risks if not properly treated. The application of biochar in removing organic and inorganic pollutants from industrial effluents has attracted attention. Future research should focus on optimizing biochar production and regeneration methods to enhance adsorption capacity and economic benefits.

Adsorption characteristics of magnetic nanoparticles coated mixed fungal biomass for toxic Cr(VI) ions in aquatic environment

A. Saravanan et al.

Summary: This research demonstrates the adsorptive removal of Cr(VI) ions from aquatic environment using newly synthesized magnetic nanoparticles coated mixed fungal biomass (MNP-FB). The study shows that MNP-FB is efficient and economically suitable for the removal of Cr(VI) ions from water.

Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Hybridized CeO2@SiO2 Nanoparticles Based on Rice Husk and Their Application in Antibiotic Removal

Tien-Duc Pham et al.

Summary: The core-shell material of CeO2@SiO2 synthesized based on rice husk exhibited high removal efficiency and large adsorption capacity for the antibiotic AMX, with successful fitting to Langmuir, Freundlich, and two-step adsorption models, as well as the pseudo-second-order kinetics model. Additionally, CeO2@SiO2 showed good regeneration performance in water environments.

The use of UV/H2O2 to facilitate removal of emerging contaminants in anaerobic membrane bioreactor effluents

Nicolas Augsburger et al.

Summary: The study evaluates UV/H2O2 as a potential strategy suited for the removal of pharmaceutical compounds as well as antibiotic resistant bacteria and antibiotic resistance genes from AnMBR effluent. UV/H2O2 could be the ideal final disinfection strategy for AnMBR effluent without requiring additional post-treatment prior disinfection.

Mitigation of organophosphorus insecticides from environment: Residual detoxification by bioweapon catalytic scavengers

Murali Krishna Paidi et al.

Summary: Organophosphorus insecticides (OPIs) occupy a significant share in the global market, leading to increasing contamination of OPIs residues in food chains. Enzymatic degradation methods have been approved by multiple environmental regulatory agencies to neutralize toxic pesticides and insecticides.

Adsorptive removal of cefixime using a novel adsorbent based on synthesized polycation coated nanosilica rice husk

Thi Thuy Trang Truong et al.

Summary: The study investigates the adsorption of a strong polycation, PMAPTAC, on nanosilica extracted from rice husk for the removal of beta-lactam cefixime (CEF). The pre-adsorption of PMAPTAC on nano-SiO2 dramatically enhances CEF removal, resulting in a new adsorbent named PCNS. Optimization of parameters such as time, dosage, pH, and concentration led to successful CEF removal by PCNS, with a pseudo-second-order kinetics model fitting the adsorption process. The hybrid adsorbent PMAPTAC coated nano-SiO2 shows promising results for antibiotic removal from wastewater, even after multiple reuses.
