Bacillus subtilis impact on plant growth, soil health and environment: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Subhasmita Mahapatra et al.

Summary: The increased dependence on chemical fertilizers by farmers poses a risk to soil fertility and ecosystem stability. Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), such as Bacillus subtilis, play a key role in enhancing crop production and soil health. However, the presence of Bacillus subtilis can also have negative effects on beneficial rhizosphere microbes and soil health.

Bacillus subtilis CP4, isolated from native soil in combination with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi promotes biofortification, yield and metabolite production in wheat under field conditions

R. Yadav et al.

Summary: The study aimed to identify the best combination of PGPB and AMF for biofortification and yield enhancement in wheat, as well as improve soil health under field conditions. It was found that the combination of native bacterial isolate Bacillus subtilis CP4 and AMF showed exceptional ability for biofortification and yield enhancement. The analysis using GC-MS revealed significant upregulation of specific organic acids, amino acids, sugars, and sugar alcohols in plants treated with CP4 and AMF, indicating a potential correlation between metabolite dynamics and plant growth promotion.

Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria isolation from rhizosphere of submerged macrophytes and their growth-promoting effect on Vallisneria natans under high sediment organic matter load

Chuan Wang et al.

Summary: The study focused on screening plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) from the rhizosphere of submerged macrophytes to enhance the growth of Vallisneria natans under high sediment organic matter load. Eight isolates were selected based on various factors such as P solubilization, IAA and cytokinins production, and ACC deaminase activity. After inoculation with PGPR strains, there was a significant increase in plant height, with the highest rate of increase reaching 96%, providing an innovative technique for recovering submerged macrophytes under sediment organic matter stress.
