Hydraulic fracturing model of a layered rock mass based on peridynamics

Mingqi Qin et al.

Summary: In this study, a hydraulic fracturing model for layered rock based on peridynamics was proposed, and the mechanism of hydraulic fracturing in a layered rock mass, as well as the effects of stress difference, elastic modulus ratio, and interface dip angle on the propagation behavior of hydraulic fractures were investigated. It was found that stress difference plays a key role in the propagation of hydraulic fractures in a layered rock mass, and a fracture network can be induced when the design direction is perpendicular to the direction of the maximum principal stress.
