Numerical Investigation of a Central Fuel Property Hypothesis Under Boosted Spark-Ignition Conditions

Pinaki Pal et al.

Summary: The study investigated the central fuel property hypothesis by determining if RON and MON are sufficient to describe a fuel's knock-limited performance. Fuel surrogates were created with matched RON and MON, and numerical simulations were performed to analyze their performance under boosted SI conditions. The research found that deviations in knock-limited performance could be caused by differences in laminar flame speed, but significant deviations from the octane index framework require large fuel-specific differences in LFS.

Sooting characteristics of partially-premixed flames of ethanol and ethylene mixtures: Unravelling the opposing effects of ethanol addition on soot formation in non-premixed and premixed flames

Mengxiang Zhou et al.

Summary: Oxygenated biofuels like bioethanol and biodiesel are commonly used as clean fuel additives to reduce greenhouse gas and soot emissions. Experimental and numerical studies have shown that the effect of ethanol on soot formation varies depending on combustion conditions, with oxygen-related reactions playing a crucial role in explaining the opposing effects of ethanol addition in different flame configurations.

Identification of the molecular-weight growth reaction network in counterflow flames of the C3H4 isomers allene and propyne

G. Kukkadapu et al.

Summary: The reaction networks for aromatics formation in counterflow flames of the C3H4 isomers allene and propyne were identified through experimental and modeling study. The study revealed higher concentrations of aromatic species in the allene flame, and the new mechanism accurately captured the observed experimental trends. The importance of aliphatically substituted aromatics and ring-enlargement reactions for growth reactions was indicated by the results.
