Kai Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in zinc ion batteries (ZIBs) is inhibited by the supramolecular host-guest complex composed of H3O+ as guest and 18-crown-6 as host. The complex induces even zinc plating on the zinc anode, resulting in improved battery performance. The proposed host-guest supramolecular interaction is expected to further the development of zinc batteries.
