Interstage difference of pressure pulsation in a three-stage electrical submersible pump

Yang Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the pressure pulsation characteristics inside a typical three-stage ESP based on numerical simulation and experiment measurement. The results showed good agreement between numerical predictions and experiment results. It was found that the dynamic and static interference between impeller and diffuser is the direct cause of pressure pulsations within the ESP.

Experimental investigation of pressure drop in failed Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP) under liquid single-phase and gas-liquid two-phase flow

William Monte Verde et al.

Summary: This study focuses on estimating the pressure drop in a damaged ESP in deep offshore fields, using experimental measurements and adjusted empirical correlations. The results show a decreasing dependence between loss coefficient and Reynolds number, and the homogeneous model is suitable for predicting pressure drop at the ESP within the experimental matrix, with gas fractions up to 35%.

Comparison and validation of various turbulence models for U-bend flow with a magnetic resonance velocimetry experiment

Yong Han et al.

Summary: Turbulence modeling is essential for accurate prediction of turbulent fluid motion, and a new one-equation Wray-Agarwal (WA) turbulence model has been developed to improve predictions for turbulent flows with large separation and curvature. Comparison with other commonly used turbulence models shows that the WA model gives the highest accuracy in predicting the complex three-dimensional turbulent characteristics of flow with large curvature in a U-bend.

The influence of waves propagating with the current on the wake of a tidal stream turbine

Yuquan Zhang et al.

Summary: The presence of wind-waves significantly influences the performance and wake structure of tidal-stream turbines, particularly in terms of swirl numbers and turbulence intensities in the near field. The analysis reveals that wave effects are more pronounced at the top-tip and rotor-centerline water depth levels, indicating axisymmetric turbulent conditions dominated by the axial turbulence component.

Energy characteristics and optimal design of diffuser meridian in an electrical submersible pump

Yang Yang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to improve the energy performance of a typical three-stage ESP using Taguchi methods and numerical simulations. The optimization of the meridian within ESP diffuser was guided by analyzing the influence priority of different factors. Comparison before and after optimization showed the significant helpfulness of Taguchi test in optimizing the meridian within ESP diffuser.
