Validation of Velocity Field Measured with Particle Image Velocimetry of a Partially Heated Cavity

Francesco Corvaro et al.

Summary: A novel experimental set-up was built to study the velocity field distribution under the condition of a partially heated wall. Both experimental and numerical simulation methods were used to analyze the heat transfer mechanism and velocity fields in a scaled model of a room or an electronic device. The results from the experiments and simulations are in good agreement, demonstrating the feasibility of the method.

On the use of particle image velocimetry (PIV) data for the validation of Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) simulations during the intake process of a spark ignition direct injection (SIDI) engine

Li Shen et al.

Summary: This paper explores how to provide fair validation between experimental measurements and simulation results in highly fluctuating flow fields, such as the engine intake jet. Various methods, including ensemble averaging, speed-based averaging, and low-order proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) reconstruction, were applied to experimental PIV vector fields to enable comparison to RANS simulations. Recommendations were made on how to best represent the intake jet while evaluating the performances of each method using quantitative comparison metrics.

A modified Richardson-Lucy deconvolution for rapid reconstruction of light field μPIV

Mengtao Gu et al.

Summary: This study proposes a modified Richardson-Lucy deconvolution (MRLD) method to improve the efficiency of particle distribution reconstruction in light field micro-particle image velocimetry (LF-mu PIV). The MRLD method eliminates redundant calculations and reduces reconstruction time by considering the sparse characteristic of particle distribution.

TR-PIV measurements of turbulent confined impinging twin-jets in crossflow

Hector Pastrana et al.

Summary: In this study, time-resolved particle image velocimetry (TR-PIV) was used to investigate the flow structure and dynamics of submerged transverse impinging twin-jet flows discharged into a confined laminar crossflow. Parametric studies and flow measurements revealed the mutual interactions between jet characteristics and the surrounding flow. Spectral analysis and swirling strength criteria were applied to analyze and identify vortex structures. Additionally, proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) analysis was performed to study the energetic modes and their contributions to the flow.

Modeling Transient Pipe Flow in Plastic Pipes with Modified Discrete Bubble Cavitation Model

Kamil Urbanowicz et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the impact of retarded strain in plastic pipes on water supply systems. By calculating RS and utilizing the DBCM model for analysis, it is found that the influence of retarded strain on pressure and velocity waveforms is significant, with a greater impact than unsteady friction.

被撤回的出版物: Analytical and CFD analysis investigation of fluid-structure interaction during water hammer for straight pipe line (Retracted article. See vol. 199, 2022)

M. Kandil et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the influence of water hammer effect on the FSI four-equation model of two filling pipes system by using analytical and computational fluid dynamics methods. The exact solution takes into account fluid-pipe interaction, pipe velocity, and mechanical vibrations at junctions or valves. The proposed model was validated through comparison with previous studies and results.

Experimental investigation of viscoelastic turbulent fluid hammer in helical tubes, considering column-separation

Sahar Rezapour et al.

Summary: The study experimentally investigated the overpressures and column separation induced by the sudden closure of a valve in hydraulic systems. Results showed that adding polymer additives in copper tubes considerably inhibited column separation, but the effect weakened after degradation. The viscoelastic behavior of the PE tube walls made the column separation phenomenon less significant in comparison.

Summary: This study compared four different moving mesh techniques of CFD and found that these techniques can well describe the dynamic behavior of a swing check valve during closure, but there are differences in predicting the inflowing fluid velocity when the valve is fully closed.
