Prediction of coal flotation performance using a modified deep neural network model including three input parameters from feed

Xiangning Bu et al.

Summary: In this study, a deep neural network (DNN) model was built based on a large amount of valid data to predict the quality of flotation products. By applying data augmentation method and proposing a new loss function, the prediction accuracy and generalization performance of the model were improved.

Deep learning for full-feature X-ray microcomputed tomography segmentation of proton electron membrane fuel cells

Kunning Tang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the benefits of using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in accurately classifying different materials of proton exchange membrane fuel cells using X-ray micro-computed tomography. The study shows that a novel UResNet CNN can effectively segment the complete volume of the fuel cells with high accuracy. The CNN outperforms the manual segmentation, especially in separating carbon fibres and binder phase in the gas diffusion layer. Additionally, the CNN provides realistic permeability calculation results for the binder void space.

Development and experimental validation of a texture-based 3D liberation model

Pratama Istiadi Guntoro et al.

Summary: Predicting mineral liberation through a texture-based 3D liberation model calibrated using experimental data measured in 3D mu CT can explain around 84% of the variance in the experimental liberation data. The generated particle population can be used for particle-based process simulation.

In-process detection of grinding burn using machine learning

Emil Sauter et al.

Summary: The goal of improving industrial grinding processes is to reduce processing time and costs while maintaining workpiece quality. This study introduces a new approach for detecting grinding burn in each ground part under near-production conditions. By using genetic programming, an optimized combination of feature selector and classifier resulted in a high classification accuracy of about 99%.

Modelling of coal flotation responses based on operational conditions by random forest

Xiangning Bu et al.

Summary: Coal consumption is a critical factor in China's economy. This study used random forest as an advanced machine learning method to rank flotation operations and predict flotation responses. The results showed that in the optimum conditions, yield and ash content would be 80% and 9% respectively, with frother having the highest effectiveness on yield. The outcomes of modelling indicated that random forest can accurately be used for ranking flotation parameters in mineral processing.
