Dielectric barrier discharge jet processed TiO2 nanoparticle layer for flexible perovskite solar cells

Mohana Sruthi Mallela et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the use of atmospheric pressure plasma treatment to enhance the interface properties between the active perovskite layer and electron transport layer in flexible perovskite solar cells. By applying a scan-mode low-temperature helium dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) jet to process the TiO2 nanoparticle layers, the photoelectrical conversion efficiency of the cells is improved from 12.30% to 13.66%. This improvement is attributed to the increase of hydrophilic functional groups and the reduction of charge transfer resistance on the surface of the TiO2 nanoparticle layer.

Photo-assisted Al-air batteries based on gel-state electrolyte

Xing Hou et al.

Summary: The use of new concept electrochemical devices to store and release solar energy has always been a research hotspot in the society of resource shortage. This study introduces CuO and Cu2O semiconductor electrode materials and calcium alginate hydrogel-based electrolyte into the Al-air battery to improve its performance. The results show that the CuO air cathode performs better under illumination, and the specific capacity in the hydrogel is about 20 times that of the aqueous sodium hydroxide solution. The semiconductor energy band structure and discharge mechanism of the photo-assisted Al-air battery are also studied.

Use of Hydrothermal Carbonization and Cold Atmospheric Plasma for Surface Modification of Brewer's Spent Grain and Activated Carbon

Krystian Krochmalny et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of hydrothermal carbonization and cold plasma jet treatment on the structure and sorption properties of spent brewery grain. The results show that treatment with helium and argon significantly improves the sorption capacity and specific surface area of hydrochars. However, plasma activation has a limited effect on activated carbon.

Nanoindentation characterization of nanocomposites coating based on graphene and siloxane matrix deposited by dielectric barrier discharge plasma

Abdessadk Anagri et al.

Summary: In this study, HMDSO/Graphene nanosheets (GNs) nanocomposite coatings were successfully prepared by dielectric barrier discharge at atmospheric pressure. The scanning electron microscopy observation showed that the GNs were well distributed in the HMDSO matrix. The nanoindentation test results indicated that the hardness increased and Young's modulus decreased with the increase of graphene nanosheets percentage. Creep compliance analysis also revealed the viscoelastic behavior of the nanocomposite coatings.

Nanoindentation characterization of nanocomposites coating based on graphene and siloxane matrix deposited by dielectric barrier discharge plasma

Abdessadk Anagri et al.

Summary: Dielectric barrier discharge was used to deposit HMDSO/GNs nanocomposite coatings with well-distributed graphene nanosheets. Nanoindentation tests showed increased hardness and decreased Young's modulus with higher graphene content. Creep compliance analysis revealed viscoelastic behavior of the nanocomposite coatings compared to plasma polymer homopolymers.

Degradation phenomena on atmospheric air plasma treatment of polyester fabrics

Szilvia Klebert et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that short-term atmospheric cold plasma treatment significantly affects the surface chemistry and properties of polyester fabrics, such as increased wettability and moisture absorption, and slightly increased surface roughness. However, prolonged treatment may lead to a decrease in tensile strength and have detrimental effects on the fabric.

Recent progress of electrospun porous carbon-based nanofibers for oxygen electrocatalysis

Xuan Wang et al.

Summary: Noble metals are efficient in oxygen electrocatalysis but limited by scarcity and poor durability, leading to a search for alternatives such as 1D porous carbon-based materials. Electrospinning technology offers a promising strategy for creating porous carbon-based nanofibers with more active sites, high conductivity, and good mechanical strength. The challenges and future prospects of electrospun porous carbon-based nanofibers for electrocatalytic applications are discussed in this review.
