Differential responses of soil bacteria and fungi to altered precipitation in a meadow steppe

Xuechen Yang et al.

Summary: This study found that soil bacterial communities were more sensitive to changes in precipitation, while fungal communities were more affected by inter-annual differences in precipitation. Increased annual precipitation led to a shift in dominance from bacteria to fungi in the microbial community. Soil water content, pH, and total phosphorus were key factors influencing soil microbial community diversity under altered precipitation conditions.

Stoichiometric models of microbial metabolic limitation in soil systems

Yongxing Cui et al.

Summary: This study developed three new models that more consistently predicted microbial metabolic limitations, showing that microbial metabolism in high-latitude grasslands and low-latitude forests were predominantly limited by soil N and P, respectively. Increases in soil organic C with ecosystem development could intensify these limitations. Additionally, the new V-T model identified C limitation to microbial metabolism, which showed a consistent negative correlation with microbial C use efficiency among ecosystems, confirming that resource constraints regulate microbial resource allocation.
