Adaptive spatial planning of protected area network for conserving the Himalayan brown bear

Tanoy Mukherjee et al.

Summary: Large mammals in low-density high-altitude areas are globally threatened due to delicate climatic and ecological conditions. Among them, the Himalayan brown bear is a species with limited distribution and small populations. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of existing Himalayan Protected Areas for the conservation of the Himalayan brown bear, predicting its current and future distribution and movements in climate change scenarios for 2050 using species distribution models and assessing biological connectivity.
