History of the solar nebula from meteorite paleomagnetism

Benjamin P. Weiss et al.

Summary: Recent advances in understanding magnetism in the solar nebula and protoplanetary disks show that magnetic fields play a crucial role in planetary formation and nebular evolution. Paleomagnetic measurements indicate field strengths consistent with observed protostellar accretion rates, suggesting magnetism is involved in mass transport in PPDs. Paleomagnetic studies also reveal decreasing field strengths in the inner and outer solar system over time, similar to the observed lifetimes of extrasolar protoplanetary disks.

Oxygen isotope systematics of crystalline silicates in a giant cluster IDP: A genetic link to Wild 2 particles and primitive chondrite chondrules

Mingming Zhang et al.

Summary: An investigation on the petrology and oxygen isotope systematics of anhydrous interplanetary dust particles (IDPs) found in Earth's stratosphere reveals their possible cometary origin and the major source of crystalline silicates in comets. The study suggests that these primitive extraterrestrial materials likely originated from icy outer solar system comets, with components resembling CR chondrite chondrule-like materials. The similarities among IDPs, Wild 2 particles, and primitive chondrite chondrules support the hypothesis that these materials formed in wide solar system regions.
