Summary: Cysteine plays a crucial role in cellular function and accurately detecting it remains a key challenge. The water-soluble organic fluorescent probe Myco-Cys has been developed to selectively detect cysteine and distinguish it from other biothiols, showing a strong turn-on response in living cells. The probe's sensing ability was demonstrated through confocal fluorescence microscopy and it was able to monitor cysteine levels in the presence of oxidative stress.
