Elevated LDL Cholesterol with a Carbohydrate-Restricted Diet: Evidence for a Lean Mass Hyper-Responder Phenotype
Nicholas G. Norwitz et al.
Summary: This study found that there is significant heterogeneity in the response of LDL cholesterol (LDL-C) to a carbohydrate-restricted diet (CRD). Body mass index (BMI) is inversely associated with LDL-C change, and a marker of good metabolic health predicts larger LDL-C increases. Lean mass hyper-responders, with low BMI and similar prior LDL-C levels, tend to have greater LDL-C elevation on a CRD.
