Promoting or attenuating? An eye-tracking study on the role of social cues in e-commerce livestreaming

Mengqi Fei et al.

Summary: Unlike general e-business, e-commerce livestreaming allows anchors to engage with viewers through social functions, however, little research has been done on the effects of social cues in this context. This study uses the S-O-R theory to examine the impact of social cues on attention allocation and purchase intention, finding that interaction text and herding message have different effects, with anchor attractiveness moderating these effects. Additionally, endogenous attention is positively related to purchase intention, while exogenous attention has a more complex relationship involving distracting effects and social influence.
