Differential survival of systemic B-cell lymphomas initially diagnosed in the skin: a population-based study of 883 patients

Nikhil Goyal et al.

Summary: Although rare, initial diagnosis of systemic B-cell lymphomas in the skin is an important occurrence in dermatology. Our study found that follicular lymphoma is the most likely to be diagnosed in the skin, while chronic lymphocytic leukemia is the least likely.

Summary: Each year, the American Cancer Society compiles data on cancer occurrence and outcomes in the United States. The latest data shows that breast and prostate cancer progress has stagnated, while lung cancer has shown improvements in survival rates. Lung cancer incidence for advanced disease has declined while localized-stage rates have increased, resulting in higher survival rates. Mortality patterns align with incidence trends, with lung cancer deaths declining rapidly, breast cancer deaths slowing, and prostate cancer deaths stabilizing.

Cutaneous histiocytoses in children

Sylvie Fraitag et al.

Summary: Cutaneous histiocytoses are a group of diseases characterized by the accumulation of macrophage or dendritic cell-like cells in the skin. The diseases range from self-resolving, skin-limited conditions to severe multiorgan diseases. Recent advancements in molecular pathology have led to a new classification system based on molecular alterations, clinical characteristics, imaging features, and cell phenotypes.

Hematological disorders in children with Down syndrome

Silvia Triarico et al.

Summary: Children with Down syndrome may develop benign hematological conditions in the neonatal period, with some cases progressing to leukemia, where GATA1 mutations can be used to monitor minimal residual disease. Down syndrome patients have a higher risk of developing acute lymphoblastic leukemia compared to non-Down syndrome patients.

Cutaneous mosaic RASopathies associated with rhabdomyosarcoma

Olivia M. T. Davies et al.

Summary: Variants in RAS genes are associated with the development of certain pediatric cancers, including rhabdomyosarcoma. Somatic RAS variants may increase the risk of rhabdomyosarcoma, and the presence of RAS-driven birthmarks could serve as a potential indicator of its development. Further research is needed to determine the incidence of rhabdomyosarcoma and establish monitoring guidelines for at-risk patients.

Dermoscopic and trichoscopic features of primary cutaneous lymphomas - systematic review

M. Slawinska et al.

Summary: This study provides a systematic review of the utility of dermoscopy and trichoscopy in the diagnostics of primary cutaneous lymphomas, summarizing the different features observed in T-cell and B-cell lymphomas. Further studies are needed to explore the potential role of dermoscopy/trichoscopy in diagnosing cutaneous lymphomas, especially in entities with limited reported cases.

Metastatic neuroblastoma masquerading as infantile hemangioma in a 4-month-old child

Kristine Karkoska et al.

Summary: Diffuse liver lesions in infants can have a variety of causes, including infantile hemangioma (IH) and neuroblastoma (NBL). This case study highlights the importance of considering a broad range of differential diagnoses when evaluating new findings in patients with previously diagnosed IH.

Neuroblastoma

Christine Chung et al.

Summary: The survival of high-risk neuroblastoma patients has significantly improved with the use of intensive multimodality treatment regimens, including chemotherapy, surgery, radiation therapy, myeloablative chemotherapy followed by stem cell rescue, and immunotherapy. Current treatment strategies involve global collaboration and the adoption of a uniform International Neuroblastoma Risk Group Staging System to facilitate comparisons across clinical trials. Future research includes discussing the indications and dosages of radiation therapy and the integration of meta-iodobenzyl guanidine therapy into the multimodal treatment program.

Cutaneous metastases of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma in a black African child: the role of dermoscopy in reducing time to and cost of diagnosis

Summary: Cutaneous metastases are uncommon in solid organ malignancies, but dermoscopy can provide useful clues for diagnosis and shorten the time to diagnosis. Limited data exists on dermoscopic features of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma in the literature.

Langerhans cell histiocytosis: an unusual cause of vesicular rashes in a neonate

Liang Yi Justin Wee et al.

Summary: The skin manifestations of neonatal Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) can vary and mimic other neonatal rashes, making diagnosis challenging. This case highlights the need for vigilant consideration of LCH in newborns with non-specific skin lesions, even in the absence of systemic involvement.

Paraneoplastic pemphigus associated with post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder after small bowel transplantation

Sander A. R. Fidder et al.

Summary: PNP is a rare autoimmune mucocutaneous syndrome associated with malignancies, mainly lymphoproliferative and hematologic neoplasms, and is especially rare in children. This case report presents a child who developed PNP after small bowel transplantation due to a severe genetic protein-losing enteropathy. Despite effective treatment for the PTLD, the patient survived for 5 years after the diagnosis of PNP, possibly due to strong T-cell suppressive treatments.

Cutaneous-group histiocytoses associated with myeloid malignancies: A systematic review of 102 cases

Arturo Bonometti et al.

Summary: A systematic review revealed an association between cutaneous-group histiocytosis and myeloid neoplasms, suggesting the need for further investigations when patients present with generalized eruptions and risk organ involvement. Early recognition of this association is crucial for prompt and effective therapeutic management due to the aggressive behavior of the associated myeloid neoplasms in most cases.
