Classification of Cortical Neurons by Spike Shape and the Identification of Pyramidal Neurons

Roger N. Lemon et al.

Summary: Many investigators are using spike shape parameters, particularly spike duration, to classify different neuronal sub-types. Direct validation of spike characteristics belonging to specific types of neurons is difficult, especially with nonhuman primates. Further studies are needed to validate spike duration as a means of cell classification and relate it to histological differences in cell types.
