Influence of CO2 concentration on the performance of MgO cement mixes

N. T. Dung et al.

Summary: This study found that the microstructural and mechanical properties of reactive MgO cement concrete are enhanced as the CO2 concentration increases. 5-20% CO2 led to a 5-fold increase in compressive strength, but samples cured under 20% CO2 showed limitations on further CO2 diffusion. The use of 5% CO2 produced comparable strengths at 28 days as 20% CO2, while samples cured under 10% CO2 exhibited the best performance.

Mechanical and microstructural changes in reactive magnesium oxide cement-based concrete mixes subjected to high temperatures

R. Hay et al.

Summary: This study found that the compressive strength of concrete samples cured under ambient conditions increased when exposed to high temperatures, while the accelerated formation of brucite enhanced the compressive strength of carbonated samples. A relatively stable compressive strength was observed for the carbonated samples at temperatures ranging between 100 and 300 degrees C.

Amino acids as performance-controlling additives in carbonation-activated cementitious materials

Rakibul I. Khan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the application of amino acids in controlling CaCO3 crystallization in carbonation cured wollastonite composites. The use of amino acids resulted in the formation of stable ACC, vaterite, and aragonite, as well as enhanced flexural and compressive strength of the composites. These improvements were attributed to the reduced critical pore size and the formation of organic-inorganic hybrid phases in the matrix.

Effect of metakaolin-based geopolymer concrete on the length of rigid pavement slabs

M. S. Eisa et al.

Summary: This study investigates the feasibility of replacing traditional Portland cement concrete (PCC) with geopolymer concrete (GPC) in rigid pavements used in high traffic zones. The research found that GPC performs better than PCC in terms of drying shrinkage and thermal expansion, indicating its potential as a more sustainable alternative for rigid pavement construction.
