Effect of wind speed variation on rainfed wheat production evaluated by the CERES-Wheat model

Alireza Araghi et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of wind speed changes on rainfed wheat production in arid and semi-arid regions of northeast Iran. Results showed that wind speed variation can significantly affect total ET, aboveground biomass, water use efficiency, and grain yield. It was also found that the influence of wind speed on crop growth and yield varied under different climatic conditions.

Investigation of satellite-related precipitation products for modeling of rainfed wheat production systems

Alireza Araghi et al.

Summary: This study compared different global GPPs and observed precipitation data to simulate crop yield in a major rainfed wheat production zone in Iran, with MSWEP identified as the best alternative GPP. The results suggested that multisource GPPs generally had higher skill for yield estimation, but further evaluation in other regions is needed to determine if they are more reliable than GPPs based on specific sources.

A million kernels of truth: Insights into scalable satellite maize yield mapping and yield gap analysis from an extensive ground dataset in the US Corn

Jillian M. Deines et al.

Summary: Satellite-derived crop yield maps, evaluated using a large dataset of maize field observations, showed efficient and accurate sub-field yield estimation using the SCYM model. The study found that satellite-based yield estimates were sensitive to management and environmental factors, but lacked accuracy in representing certain soil quality and planting date variations. Random forest models demonstrated comparable performance to SCYM when trained on sufficient ground observations. Results suggest that satellite yield maps are valuable for analyzing long-term yield trends and yield gap assessments.

Assessing the performance of two gridded weather data for sugarcane crop simulations with a process-based model in Center-South Brazil

Henrique Boriolo Dias et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of weather data from two GWD sources (NASA and XAVIER) on simulating sugarcane crop performance in Center-South Brazil, showing that replacing gridded rainfall with measured values can improve simulation accuracy.
