Augmented Perception for Agricultural Robots Navigation

Francisco Rovira-Mas et al.

Summary: Producing food in a sustainable way faces challenges such as a lack of skilled labor, high labor costs, and low returns for growers. Robotics emerges as a solution to counter these challenges, particularly in industrialized countries, but faces difficulties in deploying autonomous machines in open environments exposed to uncertainty. Real-time parametrization of the working environment is necessary for achieving autonomous navigation. By combining 3D vision, lidar, and ultrasonics, a navigation strategy based on local perception has been proposed for guiding robots in vineyards, providing a consistent basis for intelligent behavior in agriculture.
