Designing strategies of small-molecule compounds for modulating non-coding RNAs in cancer therapy

Rongyan Zhao et al.

Summary: Non-coding RNA (ncRNA) is a class of RNA molecules transcribed from the genome but not encoding proteins. Recent studies have shown that ncRNAs can be druggable targets for cancer therapy due to their complex spatial structures and biological functions. This review summarizes new designing strategies, such as high-throughput screening and structure-based designing, and highlights representative small-molecule compounds that modulate or selectively target ncRNAs in different types of human cancers.

LncRNA LIFR-AS1 promotes proliferation and invasion of gastric cancer cell via miR-29a-3p/COL1A2 axis

Haiyan Pan et al.

Summary: LIFR-AS1, as a competing endogenous RNA, plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of gastric tumors by regulating the expression of COL1A2 through sponging miR-29a-3p. Knocking down LIFR-AS1 inhibits proliferation, invasion, and migration of gastric tumor cells, suggesting that it may serve as a potential target for gastric tumor diagnosis and treatment.

A novel long noncoding RNA, TMEM92-AS1, promotes gastric cancer progression by binding to YBX1 to mediate CCL5

Shubin Song et al.

Summary: In this study, overexpression of TMEM92-AS1 in gastric cancer tissues was found to be associated with poor overall survival and disease-free survival. Functional experiments showed that TMEM92-AS1 promoted gastric cancer cell proliferation, migration, and tumorigenic ability. Mechanistic studies revealed that TMEM92-AS1 regulated the downstream target gene CCL5 by binding to the transcription factor YBX1, and was also associated with peripheral blood leukocyte counts.

LncRNA NKX2-1-AS1 promotes tumor progression and angiogenesis via upregulation of SERPINE1 expression and activation of the VEGFR-2 signaling pathway in gastric cancer

Fei Teng et al.

Summary: NKX2-1-AS1 is upregulated in gastric cancer and functions as a ceRNA to regulate angiogenesis by sponging miR-145-5p, promoting tumor progression via the VEGFR-2 signaling pathway.

Longnon-coding RNA BLACAT2 promotes gastric cancer progression via the miR-193b-5p/METTL3 pathway

Hao Hu et al.

Summary: Research has shown that the long non-coding RNA BLACAT2 is significantly upregulated in gastric cancer and plays a promoting role in gastric cancer progression through interaction with miR-193b-5p. This interaction affects cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and apoptosis. Additionally, the downstream target of BLACAT2, METTL3, has been found to have a significant impact on the development of gastric cancer.
