Life-cycle assessment and multi-criteria performance evaluation of pervious concrete pavement with fly ash

Xiaodan Chen et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the life cycle assessment and multi-criteria assessment of pervious concrete pavement with fly ash, integrating hydraulic and structure designs for functional unit development and combining environmental impacts with engineering and economic indicators. The research found that the environmental impacts of pervious pavement system were mainly generated from material stage in terms of GHG emissions and energy consumption, and the performance rankings of pervious concrete mixes were different from those of pervious pavement structures. The environmental impact of pervious concrete pavement with fly ash can vary depending on mechanic properties and surface layer thickness.

Mix design optimization and environmental impact assessment of low-carbon materials containing alkali-activated slag and high CaO fly ash

Jaehyun Lee et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the sustainability and engineering properties of low-carbon materials using alkali-activated slag and high CaO fly ash, and derived their expected effects on the optimal binder weight range. The research found that increasing binder weight decreases gel time but tends to increase homogel strength, and also affects the global warming potential.

Flame resistance of geopolymer foam coatings for the fire protection of steel

Johan Sarazin et al.

Summary: The research found that geopolymer foams have excellent thermal insulation properties, with their physico-chemical properties relatively stable before and after fire tests. The addition of silica fume can reduce heat conductivity, prolonging the time for flame burn-through.

Geopolymer pervious concrete modified with granulated blast furnace slag: Microscale characterization and mechanical strength

Wei Huang et al.

Summary: This study focused on the microscale characterization of geopolymer paste and mechanical properties of pervious concrete by synthesizing geopolymers using metakaolin and fly ash with granulated blast furnace slag as an admixture. The findings showed that room temperature curing was more effective for strength formation of MK based geopolymer paste compared to high temperature curing.

Effect of binder content and recycled concrete aggregate on freeze-thaw and sulfate resistance of GGBFS based geopolymer concretes

Ayse Ilayda Ugurlu et al.

Summary: In this study, GGBFS-based geopolymer concrete containing RCA was designed and tested for freeze-thaw and sulfate resistance. Results showed that increasing binder content led to improved resistance against freezing-thawing cycles and sulfate solutions. Additionally, the use of RCA in geopolymer concrete production showed potential as it resulted in minimal strength losses.
