Ultimate strain models derived using a Digital Image Correlation (DIC) system for preloaded RC columns subjected to heating and cooling and confined with CFRP sheets

Yaman Sami Shareef Al-Kamaki

Summary: This study established strain models to estimate the strains of undamaged or damaged columns due to heat exposure and subsequent wrapping with CFRP sheets. The developed models offer better prediction of experimental performance compared to existing models, especially for preloaded columns exposed to heating-cooling and retrofitted with CFRP fabrics.

Failure Strain and Fracture Prediction During Shock Tube Impact Forming of AA 5052-H32 Sheet

Saibal Kanchan Barik et al.

Summary: This study focused on evaluating failure strain and fracture pattern during shock tube impact forming of 1.5 mm thick AA 5052-H32 sheet through numerical and experimental methods. The modified Johnson-Cook model showed better flow stress predictability, and combining Cockcroft-Latham, Brozzo, and Freudenthal failure models with Johnson-Cook and modified Johnson-Cook flow stress models led to fair agreement with experimental data in predicting failure strain and necking location.

Effects of Stress Amplitude Ratio and Phase Angle on Short Fatigue Crack Behavior and Fracture Mode of EA4T Steel

Zhen Liao et al.

Summary: The study found that the same short fatigue crack behavior was observed in all specimens with homogeneous and fine microstructure, regardless of the loading condition. The fracture morphology showed cracks initiated on the specimen surface, with distinct specific fracture morphology in each region. The comparison and analysis of fatigue life and short crack growth rate indicated that stress amplitude ratio and phase angle significantly influenced the fatigue life and short crack growth rate of the specimens.

Fracture parameters calibration and validation for the high strength steel based on the mesoscale failure index

Haohui Xin et al.

Summary: This study discusses how to accurately obtain material parameters for ductile fracture simulation in high strength steel structures, proposing a method that combines micromechanics with the phenomenological fracture model. By using mesoscale critical equivalent plastic strain as a failure index, the fracture locus of the uncoupled phenomenological model can be calibrated, leading to more accurate material parameters.

3D-DIC strain field measurements in bolted and hybrid bolted-bonded joints of woven carbon-epoxy composites

Masoud Mehrabian et al.

Summary: In this study, the 3D digital image correlation technique was used to study the tensile behaviors of single-lap bolted and hybrid bolted-bonded joints. The results show that hybridization can mitigate stress concentration around bolts, delay damage initiation, reduce secondary bending and twisting, and improve strength retention, while maintaining a balance between bypass and bearing loads in multi-bolt fastened joints.

A new constitutive model for high strength structural steels

Yuan-Zuo Wang et al.

Summary: This paper presents an experimental study on High Strength Structural (HSS) steels, identifying existing constitutive models' limitations in capturing the yield plateau region and full-range softening behavior under cyclic loading. A new constitutive model, the HSS-TD model, with consideration of three-stage strength softening, shows significantly lower errors compared to the conventional A-F model. The limitations of the HSS-TD model, including the influence of strain history and nonproportional loading, are also discussed.
