Consistent lensing and clustering in a low-S8 Universe with BOSS, DES Year 3, HSC Year 1, and KiDS-1000

A. Amon et al.

Summary: We evaluate the consistency between lensing and clustering by combining measurements from Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey, DES Year 3, HSC Year 1, and KiDS-1000. Good agreement is found between these lensing data sets. Two fixed cosmologies, Planck and Lensing cosmology, are used to fit the data, and both provide an acceptable fit at large scales. However, uncertainties in baryon feedback and assembly bias hinder the full utilization of small-scale measurements.

The S8 tension in light of updated redshift-space distortion data and PAge approximation

Lu Huang et al.

Summary: One of the most prominent challenges to the standard ΛCDM cosmology is the tension between the structure growth parameter S-8 constrained by CMB data and the smaller one suggested by cosmic shear data. Recent studies show that the RSD data also prefers a smaller S-8, but the result is sensitive to the cosmological model. In this work, the RSD constraint on S-8 is updated with the most up-to-date data set, and it is found to be consistent with the CMB constraint. Furthermore, the constraint on S-8 is found to be insensitive to the cosmological model when using a model-independent description of the late universe.

Challenges for ACDM: An update

L. Perivolaropoulos et al.

Summary: In recent years, challenges to the standard ACDM model have been emerging as cosmological observations improve. This review discusses various signals in cosmological and astrophysical data that are in tension with the standard ACDM model, such as the Hubble tension, growth tension, and lensing amplitude anomaly, as well as other less-discussed signals that may hint towards new physics. The goal is to provide an update on the current status of these signals, particularly the Hubble tension, and refer readers to additional resources for more details.

KiDS-1000: Cosmic shear with enhanced redshift calibration

J. L. van den Busch et al.

Summary: In this study, a cosmic shear analysis with an improved redshift calibration for the fourth data release of the Kilo-Degree Survey (KiDS-1000) was presented using self-organising maps (SOMs). The redshift calibration sample was expanded to include data from 17 spectroscopic redshift campaigns and was enhanced with precision photometric redshifts from COSMOS2015 and the Physics of the Accelerated Universe Survey (PAUS). A Complete Orthogonal Sets of E/B-Integrals (COSEBIs) cosmic shear analysis was performed on the newly calibrated KiDS sample. The results showed good agreement with previous studies and increased the tension with measurements of the cosmic microwave background.

Summary: Researchers explore the ultraviolet completion of k-essence and its dynamic evolution, finding that the completion does not result in any breakdown of the Cauchy problem. However, the nonlinear behavior of k-essence lies mostly outside the range of validity of the low-energy theory.

Summary: The study presents cosmological constraints using the fourth data release of the Kilo-Degree Survey (KiDS-1000), revealing tension with the Planck Legacy analysis predictions. The results from the fiducial COSEBIs analysis align well with other complementary analyses, indicating robust S-8 constraints dominated by statistical errors.

Dynamics of k-essence in loop quantum cosmology *

Jiali Shi et al.

Summary: This study finds that the fixed points in LQC are consistent with standard FRW cosmology, with stability conditions for most attractor solutions also aligned. However, tighter constraints are imposed on some special fixed points due to the LQG effect, which plays a key role only in the early epoch of the universe and dissipates in later stages.

A more accurate Parameterization based on cosmic Age (MAPAge)

Lu Huang et al.

Summary: Recent tensions between different cosmological datasets have raised doubts about the standard Λ cold dark matter model. A new, more accurate parameterization based on cosmic age (MAPAge) has been developed, showing significantly improved accuracy compared to the previous PAge model. While the PAge approximation is deemed sufficient for current observations, the extension to MAPAge is crucial for future observations requiring sub-percent accuracy in theoretical predictions.

An accelerated universe with negative equation of state parameter in inhomogeneous cosmology with k-essence scalar field

Somnath Mukherjee et al.

Summary: The scaling relation for spherically symmetric k-essence scalar fields in an inhomogeneous cosmology with the LTB metric is obtained, showing a reduction to the known relation for a homogeneous cosmology under certain identifications of the metric functions. By setting up a k-essence lagrangian and solving the Euler-Lagrangian equations, the relationship between LTB metric functions and the fields is established. The LTB inhomogeneous universe exhibits accelerated expansion driven by negative pressure.

Summary: This paper investigates the late time cosmology of a non-canonical scalar field coupled to a vector field in a Bianchi-I background, showing that anisotropic dark energy fixed points can be attractors for certain parameters and that oscillations in the equation of state of dark energy and shear may occur at late times when the coupling of the k-essence field to the vector field is strong enough.

Statistics of thawing k-essence dark energy models

Zhiqi Huang

Summary: The study focuses on constructing thawing k-essence models by generating Taylor expansion coefficients of L(0, X) from random matrices and selecting dark energy candidates based on assumptions of negative pressure and non-growth of subhorizon inhomogeneities. The distribution of thawing k-essence dark models in the (w0, wa) space is highly nonuniform, with approximately 90% clustering near a slow-roll line.

Reconciling low and high redshift GRB luminosity correlations

Lu Huang et al.

Summary: The study found that the tension between low and high redshift in GRB luminosity correlation remains almost the same across different models, indicating that the cosmological assumption is not the primary driver of the redshift evolution. By debiasing the GRB data to match energy distributions, it was shown that the evolution of the Amati relation is mainly attributed to selection effects, rather than implying cosmological evolution of GRBs.

Completed SDSS-IV extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey: Cosmological implications from two decades of spectroscopic surveys at the Apache Point Observatory

Shadab Alam et al.

Summary: Based on the final measurements of clustering using galaxies, quasars, and Ly alpha forests from the SDSS lineage, this study provides comprehensive cosmological implications. The BAO data alone can rule out dark-energy-free models, and when combined with other measurements, significant improvements are made on constraining cosmological parameters within the ΛCDM model. The results indicate that various parameter extensions remain consistent with a ΛCDM model in a combined analysis, showing precision changes of less than 0.6% in key parameters.

A. O. Barvinsky et al.

Summary: This study explores modifications of general relativity by introducing a special noncovariant constraint, resulting in a specific matter stress tensor. By introducing Stueckelberg fields, these gravity models are made covariant, with three of them decoupling dynamically in the case of generalized unimodular gravity. The motivation for GUMG comes from effective field theory.

Early dark energy in k-essence

S. X. Tian et al.

Summary: In an effort to solve the coincidence problem between the energy scale of EDE and matter-radiation equality, a new EDE scenario triggered by radiation-matter transition was proposed. Although k-essence seems unable to realize this new EDE scenario, an EDE model with a different scenario was achieved within the k-essence framework. The study suggests that more research is needed to fully address the coincidence problem in the originally proposed scenario.
