Chitosan/hyaluronan nanogels co-delivering methotrexate and 5-aminole-vulinic acid: A combined chemo-photodynamic therapy for psoriasis

Yixuan Wang et al.

Summary: The study fabricated chitosan/hyaluronan nanogels to co-load methotrexate (MTX) and 5-aminoleavulinic acid (ALA) for a combined chemo-photodynamic therapy for psoriasis. The nanogels enhanced the penetration and retention of MTX and ALA in the skin, leading to synergistic anti-proliferative and apoptotic effects on psoriatic cells. Importantly, the nanogels reduced the toxicities of oral MTX to the liver and kidney, making it a convenient, effective, and safe treatment strategy for psoriasis.
