Revisiting the supplementary relationship of dynamic contact angles measured by sessile-droplet and captive-bubble methods: Role of surface roughness

Sreya Sarkar et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of surface roughness on contact angle measurements through experiments and theoretical models. As the surface roughness increases, the dynamic contact angles measured by different methods deviate from the supplementary principle. A theoretical explanation is provided for this disparity, with predictions based on prevalent thermodynamic models of wetting and contact-angle hysteresis on rough substrates.

Comparative study on wetting of smooth and rough silica surface by molten Sn-3.5Ag-2Ti alloys

Qiaoli Lin et al.

Summary: The rough surface has a negative impact on promoting wettability for a reactive system at high temperatures, but the precipitation of wettable reaction products can enhance wettability. Wetting behavior can be divided into two categories based on temperature, influenced by either reaction rate control or Ti transport mechanism.

Designing antiviral surfaces to suppress the spread of COVID-19

Sanghamitro Chatterjee et al.

Summary: Surface engineering is an emerging technology used to design antiviral surfaces following the COVID-19 pandemic. Studying the evaporation rate, surface texture, and material properties, it was found that porous surfaces have faster evaporation rates compared to impermeable surfaces, reducing the likelihood of virus survival. By optimizing surface roughness and wettability, surfaces with significant antiviral effects can be designed.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of plasma treatment on the surface properties and bonding strength of High Impact PolyStyrene, exploring the effects of different treatment parameters. The atmospheric pressure of air operation plasma surface treatment can improve the wetting properties of materials, thereby affecting the bonding strength.

Insight on the evaporation dynamics in reducing the COVID-19 infection triggered by respiratory droplets

Sumit Kumar

Summary: The study found that the lifetime of the virus increases significantly under highly humid conditions, and the survival time of the virus can be reduced by adjusting the initial contact angle and the receding contact angle of droplets. The proposed model reveals the effect of shear stress on the virus and aids in designing more effective protective equipment. However, the existing model does not consider the thermo-capillary convection effect on the survival time of the virus.
