Influence of finite size of ions on thermal transport of a simultaneous electrokinetic-pressure driven flow of power-law fluids in a slit microchannel

Payam Fadaei et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effects of finite ionic sizes on thermal transport in a microchannel under an imposed heat flux at high interfacial electrokinetic potentials. By introducing the ion size into the modified Poisson-Boltzmann equation, the authors reveal the intricate interplay among ion size, pressure gradient, and zeta potential and their considerable impact on temperature distribution.

Non-isothermal effects in the slippage condition and absolute viscosity for an electroosmotic flow

Edgar A. Ramos et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel asymptotic analysis method is developed for considering the temperature dependence of electroosmotic flow in a rectangular microchannel. The results show that the non-isothermal condition leads to a significant increase in volumetric flow rate compared to the purely isothermal condition. This increase is controlled by heat losses to the ambient and the slip effect.

Two-layer combined electroosmotic and pressure-driven flow of power-law fluids in a circular microcapillary

Shuyan Deng et al.

Summary: This study investigates the two-layer combined electroosmotic and pressure driven flow of power-law fluids in a circular microchannel, and proposes a mathematical model to describe the phenomenon. By discussing the characteristics of power-law fluids and examining the interactions between the velocities, flow rates, viscosities, and electroosmotic characters of the two fluids, this study provides insights into the control and behavior of two-liquid systems in such microchannels.

The slip flow of generalized Maxwell fluids with time-distributed characteristics in a rotating microchannel

Chenqing Feng et al.

Summary: A time-distributed order fractional continuity model is proposed for simulating the rotating electro-osmotic slip flow of generalized Maxwell fluids in an alternating electric field. The model showcases the wider memory characteristics of viscoelastic fluid. Due to the stronger memory effects of generalized Maxwell fluids, reverse flow is restrained and the time for oscillation reaching the steady state is delayed. Additionally, the velocity increases rapidly with the increase of the Debye-Huckel coefficient.

Mass transport by an oscillatory electroosmotic flow of power-law fluids in hydrophobic slit microchannels

R. D. Banos et al.

Summary: This work investigates the hydrodynamics, concentration field, and mass transport of species under an oscillatory electroosmotic flow obeying a power law, taking into account the slippage effect at microchannel walls. Numerical results indicate that optimal conditions for mass transport of species can be promoted under slippage effects for different Schmidt numbers and Womersley numbers less than unity, with a maximum enhancement of two orders of magnitude observed for Wo>1. The analysis reveals a cross-over phenomenon in mass transport for different species, both Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids, with significantly faster transport observed for shear-thinning fluids with slip at the microchannel walls.

Electroosmotic flow of viscoelastic fluid through a microchannel with slip-dependent zeta potential

Kasavajhula Naga Vasista et al.

Summary: This study investigates electroosmotic flow of viscoelastic fluids through a hydrophobic microchannel with consideration of interfacial slip and zeta potential. Analytical solutions are obtained for the electric double layer potential distribution, flow velocity, flow rate, stresses, and viscosity. It is found that neglecting the effect of interfacial slip on zeta potential leads to underestimation of flow rate, with this underestimation increasing with Deborah number, decreasing EDL thickness, and increasing slip coefficient. Additionally, the rheological behavior influences the flow rate based on the range of slip coefficients and changes in EDL thickness.

Zhaodong Ding et al.

Summary: The study focused on the electrokinetic flow of viscoelastic fluids under oscillatory pressure gradients, finding resonance effects when elastic properties dominate. By analyzing the interaction of viscoelastic shear waves, the critical Deborah number for resonance was derived. Different fluid models were used to investigate efficiency enhancement and damping effects, providing insights into the occurrence of resonances under various conditions.
