Case Report: A Case of Concomitant Paroxysmal Kinesigenic Dyskinesia and Epilepsy: Can We Treat Two Birds With One Stone?

Jun-Hong Geng et al.

Summary: Paroxysmal kinesigenic dyskinesia (PKD) patients may also suffer from epilepsy, making it challenging to differentiate and control both diseases. This case report documents a Chinese girl with PKD and epilepsy, effectively controlled with the use of lacosamide (LCM), offering a new option for patients resistant to conventional antiepileptic drugs.

Phenytoin and damage to the cerebellum - a systematic review of published cases

Robin Ferner et al.

Summary: This article provides a systematic review of the effects of phenytoin on the cerebellum, showing that most cases result in cerebellar atrophy and clinical symptoms such as ataxia. Although there is bias due to the reliance on case reports, the analysis provides a comprehensive understanding of phenytoin-induced cerebellar dysfunction.

Zonisamide improves wearing off in Parkinson's disease without exacerbating dyskinesia: Post hoc analysis of phase 2 and phase 3 clinical trials

Yoshio Tsuboi et al.

Summary: This study found that zonisamide can improve wearing off in patients with PD without exacerbating dyskinesia, with the 50 mg dose potentially benefiting the improvement of dyskinesia. Further research is needed to determine the clinical relevance and benefits of zonisamide on dyskinesia more clearly.

The Efficacy and Safety of Pharmacological Treatments for Restless Legs Syndrome: Systemic Review and Network Meta-Analysis

Xuan Zhou et al.

Summary: Comparing the effectiveness and safety of different drugs for restless legs syndrome (RLS), this network meta-analysis found that cabergoline and pramipexole are the most effective in relieving symptoms, while iron supplements significantly help RLS patients with iron deficiency. These drugs are effective for primary RLS, but data on secondary RLS are insufficient. Additionally, alpha-2-delta ligands and DAs are recommended for their efficacy and tolerability.

Genetic Neonatal-Onset Epilepsies and Developmental/Epileptic Encephalopathies with Movement Disorders: A Systematic Review

Carlotta Spagnoli et al.

Summary: Despite advancements in next generation sequencing technologies and increased clinical interest in complex neurological phenotypes associating epilepsies and developmental/epileptic encephalopathies (DE/EE) with movement disorders (MD), monogenic conditions characterized by neonatal onset epilepsy and/or DE/EE with development of an MD have been less extensively studied in the neonatal period compared to infancy. High genetic heterogeneity and low numbers of described patients were found in this review, with complex neurological phenotypes reflecting the involvement of genes crucial for early brain development. Future studies should focus on accurate neonatal epileptic phenotyping and detailed description of semiology and time-course of the associated movement disorders, especially for the rarest conditions.

Lamotrigine-Associated Movement Disorder: A Literature Review

Jamir Pitton Rissardo et al.

Summary: This literature review evaluated the clinical epidemiological profile, pathological mechanisms, and management of lamotrigine-associated movement disorders. A total of 108 cases from 48 reports in 19 countries were assessed, with various movement disorders associated with LMT being identified. Most cases showed onset of movement disorder within 6 months of LMT use, and recovery within 1 month of withdrawal, with LMT withdrawal being the most common management approach.
