Dynamic changes in paediatric invasive pneumococcal disease after sequential switches of conjugate vaccine in Belgium: a national retrospective observational study

Stefanie Desmet et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the impact of sequential use of different pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCV7, PCV13, PCV10) on the incidence of pediatric invasive pneumococcal disease and serotype distribution in Belgium from 2007 to 2018. Results showed a significant decrease in pediatric invasive pneumococcal disease during the PCV13 period, followed by an increase during the PCV10 period, mainly due to a significant rise in 19A serotype cases.

Application of a Pneumococcal Serotype-specific Urinary Antigen Detection Test for Identification of Pediatric Pneumonia in Burkina Faso

Mamadou Bountogo et al.

Summary: The study aimed to use UAD to differentiate healthy children from those with pneumonia, especially pneumonia with consolidation. Based on the assigned cutoff values, UAD-1 and UAD-2 were able to distinguish community controls from children with pneumonia.

Serotype Distribution of Remaining Pneumococcal Meningitis in the Mature PCV10/13 Period: Findings from the PSERENADE Project

Maria Garcia Quesada et al.

Summary: Introduction of PCV has reduced pneumococcal meningitis incidence, with remaining cases showing different serotype distribution in countries using PCV10/13 for at least 5-7 years. Higher-valency PCVs may target over half of remaining cases, but further data is needed for generalizability in the African meningitis belt.
