Cardiac Complications in Pregnancy: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Diagnostic Accuracy of BNP and N-Terminal Pro-BNP

Mahboobeh Sheikh et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis of 13 studies suggests that BNP and NT-proBNP levels can be used as diagnostic tools for cardiac complications in pregnant and recently-delivered women. While BNP showed relatively better diagnostic accuracy compared to NT-proBNP, further studies are needed to confirm the prospective use of NT-proBNP and clarify inconsistent findings.

Cardiac-specific troponins in uncomplicated pregnancy and pre-eclampsia: A systematic review

Samuel Dockree et al.

Summary: The risk of myocardial infarction increases during pregnancy, especially in women with pre-eclampsia. Cardiac-specific troponin (cTn) levels may be elevated in women with pre-eclampsia without MI, leading to diagnostic uncertainty. Studies suggest that TnI is elevated in pre-eclampsia, while being similar in healthy pregnant and non-pregnant women, but there is a lack of literature on pregnancy-specific reference intervals using high-sensitivity tests.

Early N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide is associated with cardiac complications and function during pregnancy in congenital heart disease

A. S. Siegmund et al.

Summary: The study found that first-trimester NT-proBNP levels in pregnant women with CHD were associated with adverse CV complications and a decline in subpulmonary ventricular function later in pregnancy. Early NT-proBNP evaluation is useful for tailored care in pregnant women with CHD.

Random intercept and linear mixed models including heteroscedasticity in a logarithmic scale: Correction terms and prediction in the original scale

Ricardo Ramirez-Aldana et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the importance of using correction terms in linear mixed models to obtain more accurate predictions, especially when considering log-normal distribution. Through simulations and real data analysis, it is proven the significance of correction terms in improving prediction accuracy.
