Recent developments on anode materials for magnesium-ion batteries: a review

Qi Guo et al.

Summary: In recent years, research interest in the development of next-generation battery systems, particularly Magnesium-ion batteries (MIBs) as an alternative to lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), has been increasing. However, serious issues such as the formation of an irreversible passivation layer on the Mg anode surface need to be resolved in the development of rechargeable MIBs. Strategies including exploration of new electrolytes and alternative anode materials, as well as structural design, dimension reduction, and introduction of the second phase, have been employed to design high-performance MIB anodes.

Enhanced properties of covalently coupled borophene-graphene layers through fluorination and hydrogenation

A. Kochaev et al.

Summary: A borophene-graphene vertical heterostructure has been successfully grown on argent substrate, showing potential applications through hydrogen and fluorine doping. The strength of interlayer interaction in these materials is determined by the type of doping, with band structure tunable by passivating but only a few of the considered heterostructures are dynamically stable. The potential applications in acousto- and optoelectronics are briefly discussed for stable materials with high piezoelectric constants and absorption coefficients.

Borophene-graphene heterostructure: Preparation and ultrasensitive humidity sensing

Chuang Hou et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the successful preparation of a heterostructure composed of hydrogenated borophene and graphene with ultrahigh sensitivity and long-term stability for humidity sensing applications. The flexibility of the borophene-graphene sensor after bending shows its potential for wearable electronics. The high performance of the sensor is attributed to the well-established charge transfer mechanism upon H2O molecule adsorption.

M2X Monolayers as Anode Materials for Li Ion Batteries

Abdus Samad et al.

Summary: Efficient electrode materials with high metallicity and low average open-circuit voltage, such as two-dimensional hexagonal metal nitrides, borides, and phosphides, show great potential for clean energy storage in Li ion batteries. These materials exhibit negligible structural distortions during Li adsorption and extraction, resulting in high reversibility and long cycle life, with superionic Li diffusion enabling fast charge or discharge.

Ab initio Study of Hydrogen Adsorption on Metal-Decorated Borophene-Graphene Bilayer

Konstantin S. Grishakov et al.

Summary: The study investigated hydrogen adsorption on a covalently bonded bilayer borophene-graphene heterostructure decorated with Pt, Ni, Ag, and Cu atoms. It was found that the Cu-decorated heterostructure exhibited good catalytic activity for the hydrogen evolution reaction, but was unstable under compression.

Computational insight of ZrS2/graphene heterobilayer as an efficient anode material

Shafiq Ur Rehman et al.

Summary: The ZrS2 monolayer exhibits promising electrochemical performance in LIBs, but issues such as reversibility and cycle life can be improved by capping it with graphene, which also provides mechanical strength and conducting channels. The hybrid of ZrS2 and graphene serves as a highly efficient 2D anode material for Li ion batteries.
