Graphene enhanced α-MnO2 for photothermal catalytic decomposition of carcinogen formaldehyde

Xiaoshan Zeng et al.

Summary: Formaldehyde is a widely present indoor air pollutant that is irritating and carcinogenic to humans. In this study, α-MnO2 nanowires were composited with graphene oxide (GO) to prepare α-MnO2/GO nanohybrids with excellent activity. These nanohybrids achieved complete decomposition of formaldehyde under solar-light irradiation at ambient temperature, demonstrating significantly enhanced catalytic activity. This work proposes a new approach for utilizing solar energy to control formaldehyde pollution in indoor air.

Insights into the Reactive and Deactivation Mechanisms of Manganese Oxides for Ozone Elimination: The Roles of Surface Oxygen Species

Lei Zhang et al.

Summary: Manganese oxides with varied Mn valence states but identical morphologies were successfully synthesized using a simple thermal treatment method. Among them, MnO2-H-200 showed superior ozone decomposition capacity, which was strongly associated with abundant oxygen vacancies on its surface. By combining various characterization techniques, the different O3 decomposition efficiencies among Mn3O4, Mn2O3, and MnO2 were found to be dependent on the nature of oxygen vacancies present.

A Nonoxide Catalyst System Study: Alkali Metal-Promoted Pt/AC Catalyst for Formaldehyde Oxidation at Ambient Temperature

Chunying Wang et al.

Summary: Metal oxides are commonly used as supports in noble metal-based catalysts for formaldehyde oxidation, but this study demonstrates the successful application of activated carbon, a nonoxide support, for Pt catalysts in HCHO oxidation. The addition of alkali metal Na enhances the stability of Pt species, increases Pt dispersion, and improves the activation of chemisorbed oxygen and water, leading to direct conversion of HCHO to CO2 and H2O on the Na-Pt/AC-R catalyst. This research extends the promotional effect of alkali metals on supported Pt catalysts to a nonoxide carrier system.

Defective domain control of TiO2 support in Pt/TiO2 for room temperature formaldehyde (HCHO) remediation

Waleed Ahmad et al.

Summary: Synthesizing defective anatase TiO2 through chemical vapor condensation and impregnating with Pt resulted in a Pt/CVC-TiO2 catalyst with high efficiency in removing HCHO at room temperature, demonstrating good stability over time. The study highlighted the synergistic relationship between oxygen vacancies in the TiO2 support and the resulting HCHO oxidation functionality.

Nickel oxide regulating surface oxygen to promote formaldehyde oxidation on manganese oxide catalysts

Hailin Zhao et al.

Summary: Catalytic oxidation is the most effective method for indoor formaldehyde removal, and Mn-based catalysts with NiO doping have been found to significantly enhance the adsorption and oxidation of formaldehyde. The study demonstrated that NiO can regulate the reactivity and amount of surface oxygen species to improve the intrinsic catalytic performance of MnOx, resulting in a stable and highly active catalyst for formaldehyde elimination.
