Effects of antibiotic norfloxacin on the degradation and enantioselectivity of the herbicides in aquatic environment

Fang Wang et al.

Summary: The co-contamination of antibiotic norfloxacin significantly influences the dissipation and distribution of herbicides in water-sediment environment, especially prolonging the residues of herbicides in sediment. However, only the degradation of acetochlor is notably inhibited by norfloxacin, while enantioselective degradation shows minimal impact in the presence of norfloxacin.

Hepatotoxicity of the anionic surfactant linear alkylbenzene sulphonate (LAS) in bullfrog tadpoles

Lilian Franco-Belussi et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of an environmentally safe concentration of LAS on the liver of Lithobates catesbeianus tadpoles, revealing that LAS exposure resulted in enlargement of liver sinusoids, vacuolization of hepatocytes, increased mast cells and melanomacrophages, and alterations in iron metabolism and storage. Additionally, hepatocyte size increased after LAS exposure, suggesting cytotoxic effects, with integrative analyses demonstrating hepatotoxic effects of LAS.

The role of two organic amendments to modify the environmental fate of S-metolachlor in agricultural soils

Jesus M. Marin-Benito et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that application of organic wastes can increase the adsorption capacity of S-metolachlor in soil, reducing its mobility and playing a positive role in avoiding groundwater contamination.

Phase Transfer and Biodegradation of Pesticides in Water-Sediment Systems Explored by Compound-Specific Isotope Analysis and Conceptual Modeling

Boris Droz et al.

Summary: Current approaches are often limited to evaluating the contribution of pesticide dissipation processes in water-sediment systems. Compound-specific isotope analysis emphasized the importance of pesticide degradation in the water phase. Combining CSIA with high-resolution tandem mass spectrometry for the identification of transformation products can improve the interpretation of pesticide dissipation in water-sediment systems.
