Associations between air pollution and biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease in cognitively unimpaired individuals

Silvia Alemany et al.

Summary: The study found that long-term exposure to air pollution is associated with higher levels of AD pathology biomarkers in cognitively unimpaired adults at increased risk of AD, particularly in relation to brain A beta deposition and CSF NfL levels.

Plasma p-tau231: a new biomarker for incipient Alzheimer's disease pathology

Nicholas J. Ashton et al.

Summary: Plasma phosphorylated tau231 is a promising biomarker for detecting Alzheimer's disease, accurately distinguishing AD patients from others and showing potential for early detection of pathology. Its performance is strong across various disease settings and it correlates well with other indicators of AD progression.

Benchmark dose analysis for PAHs hydroxyl metabolites in urine based on mitochondrial damage of peripheral blood leucocytes in coke oven workers in China

Shuai Cheng et al.

Summary: This study found that occupational exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in coke oven plant workers was associated with lower mitochondrial DNA copy number compared to the control group. Furthermore, there was a dose-response relationship between 1-hydroxypyrene and 3-hydroxyphenanthrene exposure and mitochondrial DNA damage. The benchmark dose lower confidence limits of these PAHs can be used as a reference to establish biological limits for occupational exposure.

Temporal trajectory of biofluid markers in Parkinson's disease

Min Seok Baek et al.

Summary: Longitudinal changes in biomarkers in Parkinson's disease patients can be influenced by cognitive impairment and Aβ burden at baseline. Patients with Aβ pathology may show early appearance of α-synuclein pathology, rapid progression of neurodegeneration, and greater cognitive decline.

Plasma biomarker profiles and the correlation with cognitive function across the clinical spectrum of Alzheimer's disease

Zhenxu Xiao et al.

Summary: Plasma biomarkers in Alzheimer's disease (AD) diagnosis and management are promising, but their profiles and associations with cognition across cognitive stages have been rarely reported. Plasma p-tau181 showed correlations with broader cognitive domains, suggesting its potential as a promising clinical-relevant blood-based biomarker.

Longitudinal plasma phosphorylated tau 181 tracks disease progression in Alzheimer's disease

Shi-Dong Chen et al.

Summary: In the realm of Alzheimer's disease, changes in plasma p-tau181 could reflect disease progression and significantly correlate with multiple disease-related indicators, potentially serving as a promising biomarker for monitoring disease progression and evaluating the effects of disease-modifying therapies in clinical trials.
