Combined production of metallic-iron nanoparticles: exergy and energy analysis of two alternative processes using Hydrazine and NaBH4 as reducing agents

Giorgio Vilardi et al.

Summary: This study compares the profitability and energy efficiency of two processes for producing metallic iron nanoparticles using hydrated hydrazine and sodium borohydride. The results show that the sodium borohydride-based process is more profitable and energy-efficient than the hydrazine-based one. Despite the hydrazine-based process producing high purity iron nanoparticles, the borohydride-based process has lower energy consumption and higher exergy efficiency.

Significant role of iron on the fate and photodegradation of enrofloxacin

Ivan Sciscenko et al.

Summary: The study compared the photolysis of enrofloxacin with and without complexation with iron under simulated sunlight irradiation. Iron complexation was found to enhance the photostability of enrofloxacin. Efficient degradation of the FQ-iron complex was achieved with the addition of H2O2.

Coprecipitation of Fe/Cr Hydroxides with Organics: Roles of Organic Properties in Composition and Stability of the Coprecipitates

Ning Deng et al.

Summary: The study found that different types of organic matter have varying impacts on the sequestration of chromium in Fe/Cr-OM ternary systems and the stability of coprecipitates. Some organic matter exhibits strong complexation capabilities with Fe/Cr ions and Fe/Cr hydroxide particles, leading to structural disorder and fast aggregation of the coprecipitates.

Influence of Al(III) and Sb(V) on the transformation of ferrihydrite nanoparticles: Interaction among ferrihydrite, coprecipitated Al(III) and Sb (V)

Chujia Ye et al.

Summary: This study investigated the dynamic interactions among ferrihydrite, Al(III) and Sb(V), as well as the influence of coprecipitated Al(III) and Sb(V) on the transformation of ferrihydrite. Results showed that Al(III) enhanced the immobilization of Sb(V) and the presence of Sb(V) induced more production of extractable Al(III). XRD patterns revealed that the transformation rate of coprecipitated Al(III) and Sb(V) ferrihydrite was higher than Al-coprecipitated ferrihydrite.

Adsorption behaviors of the pristine and aged thermoplastic polyurethane microplastics in Cu(II)-OTC coexisting system

Xiang-Dong Xue et al.

Summary: This study proposed the hypothesis that thermoplastic polyurethane microplastics could form toxic pollution by absorbing both antibiotics and heavy metals simultaneously. The adsorption of Cu(II) and oxytetracycline on pristine and aged TPU in single and coexisting systems was investigated, revealing synergistic effects in certain concentration ratios. The adsorption process was well described by pseudo-second order kinetics and the thermodynamic parameters indicated the endothermic and spontaneous nature of the process.

Contrasting impacts of chemical and physical ageing on hydrochar properties and sorption of norfloxacin with coexisting Cu2+

Junjie Guan et al.

Summary: The study found that ageing can increase the polarity and surface functional groups of hydrochar, enhancing the adsorption capacity of pollutants. Different ageing methods affect the adsorption mechanisms of hydrochar, with oxidative ageing increasing hydrochar's surface hydrophobic adsorption. The presence of Cu2+ significantly impacts the adsorption of pollutants on aged hydrochar.
