Atomic and Molecular Hydrogen Impurities in Hybrid Perovskite Solar Cells

Yuhang Liang et al.

Summary: This study reveals the formation of atomic and molecular hydrogen interstitials in organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites and their impact on the performance of perovskite solar cells. It shows that atomic hydrogen interstitials serve as electrically active defects and can enhance ionic conductivity, leading to degradation in the solar cell performance. However, the detrimental effects of hydrogen can be mitigated by controlling the concentration through alloying or iodine addition.

First-Principles Computational Design and Discovery of Novel Double-Perovskite Proton Conductors

Md Shafiqul Islam et al.

Summary: Solid ceramic proton conductors based on perovskite oxide materials are crucial for hydrogen-based energy devices. First-principles computation reveals that perovskites with B-site cations of lower oxidation state and smaller ionic radii exhibit lower barrier proton migration, while double perovskites with certain B-cation combinations can achieve high proton incorporation and fast proton diffusion simultaneously.

Synthesis and Research Using Computer Simulation of Proton-Conducting Solid Electrolytes Based on Hafnate and Barium Zirconate

M. Kalinina et al.

Summary: Nanopowders of BaHfO3 and BaZrO3 with open porosity of 8-10% were synthesized, showing potential applications in hydrogen power engineering as proton-conducting solid electrolytes. The proton conduction in these ceramic materials occurs in two stages: rotation around the oxygen ion and intraoctahedral proton transfer between neighboring oxygen ions. Energy parameters characterizing the behavior of hydrogen in the materials were determined through theoretical calculations.
