Superhydrophobic shape memory film with switchable adhesion to both water and solid

Haiyang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study reports a new shape memory film that can repeatedly display curved/unfolded shapes by mimicking the structure of a gecko's foot. The research results indicate that besides the variation of the contact area, a proper surface energy is crucial for special adhesion. In-situ capture/release of both solid and liquid were demonstrated using the film based on its smart adhesive performance.
