Lead ion adsorption on functionalized sugarcane bagasse prepared by concerted oxidation and deprotonation

Shuo Ai et al.

Summary: In this study, sugarcane bagasse was treated to prepare adsorbents for removing Pb(2+) from wastewater, with nitric acid acting as an oxidant. The adsorption process was found to be exothermic and spontaneous, with the number of carboxylate groups on different adsorbents proportional to the equilibrium Pb(2+) adsorption amounts.

Synthesis of phosphorylated hyper-cross-linked polymers and their efficient uranium adsorption in water

Yao Tian et al.

Summary: Two novel uranium adsorbents, PHCP-1 and PHCP-2, were synthesized and showed outstanding adsorption performance for uranium, attributed to the complex between phosphate functional groups and U(VI). The high specific surface area and strong complex between phosphate groups and U(VI) contributed to the sorption performance of PHCPs in effective uranium adsorption from water.

Functionalized aminophosphonate chitosan-magnetic nanocomposites for Cd(II) removal from aqueous solutions: Performance and mechanisms of sorption

Asmaa S. Morshedy et al.

Summary: Functionalized magnetic chitosan nanocomposites synthesized by grafting alpha-amino-phosphonate functions show excellent Cd(II) removal performance with maximum sorption capacities of 118.1 mg g(-1) and 193.5 mg g(-1) for Me-MCS and Ph-MCS, respectively. The materials exhibit exothermic cadmium sorption, fast uptake, and can be efficiently desorbed for recycling applications. In multi-component solutions, selectivity differences are observed, correlated with the reactive groups and properties of heavy metal ions.

Revisiting the Temkin Isotherm: Dimensional Inconsistency and Approximate Forms

Khim Hoong Chu

Summary: The Temkin isotherm equation is commonly used in correlating adsorption isotherms of water contaminants, but it suffers from a fundamental flaw of dimensional inconsistency and limited fitting ability. A different approximate Temkin isotherm, which outperforms the commonly used Temkin isotherm in terms of fitting ability, approaches a linear isotherm at low concentrations and commences at the (0,0) origin, resembling Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms.
