Effect of sodium dodecyl sulfate and different SiC quantities on electrodeposited Ni-Co alloy coatings

Asma Ababsa et al.

Summary: In this study, Ni-Co nanocomposites were prepared by electrodeposition in a modified Watts bath. The results showed that the co-deposition of SiC particles significantly improved the extreme tensile strength of the deposits, while the addition of SDS allowed for the filling of remaining gaps by SiC particles, achieving a homogeneous surface. Moreover, the incorporation of SiC particles and an increase in strain rate encouraged a ductile fracture mode in the nano-crystalline Ni-Co matrix. It was also observed that the addition of SDS increased the concentration of SiC particles in the Ni-Co samples.

Surface defect engineering of metal oxides photocatalyst for energy application and water treatment

Pankaj Raizada et al.

Summary: Despite the excellent characteristics of metal oxides in photocatalysis, they often suffer from charge carrier recombination and limited visible response, leading to reduced photocatalytic output. This study provides a comprehensive overview of recent developments in classifying metal oxide defects based on host crystal lattice dimensions, focusing on surface modifications through various types of defects and their impacts on photocatalytic performance. By modifying the morphology and electronic structure of metal oxide photocatalysts through defect engineering, their activity can be significantly improved for applications such as H-2 evolution, CO2 reduction, pollutant degradation, and bacterial disinfection.

Eco-Friendly Colloidal Aqueous Sol-Gel Process for TiO2 Synthesis: The Peptization Method to Obtain Crystalline and Photoactive Materials at Low Temperature

Julien G. Mahy et al.

Summary: The work reviews an eco-friendly process for producing TiO2 via colloidal aqueous sol-gel synthesis, resulting in crystalline materials without a calcination step. The process is based on the hydrolysis of a Ti precursor in excess of water, followed by the peptization of precipitated TiO2, producing crystalline TiO2 nanoparticles without thermal treatment. The TiO2 photocatalysts have shown equivalent efficiency to those post-treated with thermal methods, presenting high surface area and crystalline phases, with potential applications in various fields like fuel cells and drug delivery systems.
