Microstructure and oxidation behaviour of MoSi2 coating combined MoB diffusion barrier layer on Mo substrate at 1300 °C

Ruixiong Zhai et al.

Summary: Using a two-step pack cementation method, double layers of MoSi2-MoB were applied on the surface of a Mo substrate to enhance its oxidation resistance at high temperatures. The formation of a dense and continuous SiO2 layer with low O-2 permeability contributed to the excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance of the double layers.

Influence of hydrothermal carbon coating on the properties of CF/ZrB2/SiBCN prepared by slurry injection

Cheng Fang et al.

Summary: Slurry injection technology facilitates exploring new possibilities for preparing high-performance fiber toughened ultra-high-temperature ceramics. The hydrothermal carbon coating increases the surface energy of carbon fiber, promoting the formation of dense and uniform ceramic green bodies. The dense matrix and HTC coating provide isolation between oxygen and fibers, with the coating serving as a sacrificial layer in aggressive oxidation environments.

Fabrication, microstructure and ablation resistance of C/C-SiC composites, by using a novel precursor of SiC

Ze Zhang et al.

Summary: The novel precursor of SiC, prepared by mixing boron phenolic resin and hydrolytic solution of tetraethyl orthosilicate, was utilized to fabricate ablation-resistant C/C-SiC composites. The precursor transformed into SiC with residual carbon after heating at 1600 degrees C, showing decent anti-ablation performance due to the unique surrounded structure between the carbon and silica phases. The carbon nucleus played a positive role in enhancing ablation resistance by hindering the flow of molten silica during ablation.

Preparation of SiC Nanowire/Carbon Fiber Composites with Enhanced Electromagnetic Wave Absorption Performance

Junjie Qian et al.

Summary: In this study, SiC-coated carbon fiber decorated with SiC nanowire (SiCnw/CF) composites were successfully prepared using a one-step CVI process. The composites exhibited superior thermal stability and EMW absorption performance, with the ones obtained at 1500 degrees Celsius showing a minimum reflection loss of -36.5 dB and an effective absorption band of 5.5 GHz. This work provides a simple method to obtain and design CF-based materials with good microwave absorption properties.

Dongyang Zhang et al.

Summary: 3D C-f/ZrB2-SiC composites with homogeneous architecture were prepared via vibration-assisted slurry impregnation combined with precursor infiltration and pyrolysis to evaluate the long-term ablation behavior of carbon fiber reinforced ultra-high temperature ceramics. The intact structure of the sample was maintained after ablation due to the formation of triple oxide layers, resulting in superior ablation resistance with specific linear and mass ablation rates.
